1997-09-16 00:00:00 Workers at the Santos Port, 90kms (55 miles) southeast of Sao Paulo, unload sugar sacks for export 13 September. The privatization of the docks at Santos Port, the largest in Latin America, will begin 17 September at the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange with the auction of the Containers Terminal (TECON). The bid for TECON reportedly will start at 92 million USD. It is expected that by the end of 1997 all the docks at the port will be privatized. Official figures say that in 1996 some 36 million tons of material passed through the port, representing 35 percent of Brazil's import-export business. AFP PHOTO/Marie HIPPENMEYER AkkerbouwNieuws
